Learn more about Kay McDonald.....

How do you describe what you do:

My company, Charity Charms, creates custom branded charm and jewelry programs that help organizations worldwide raise funds and awareness, while engaging their community with a wearable message piece.

What is the mission for your businesses’ giving:

Changing the World through the Power of Charms

How do you give back to society through your business:

We help important causes engage, recruit and retain their supporters. When organizations re-sell the items we create for them they keep 100% of the profits. To date our custom products have helped raised over ten million dollars worldwide.

Charity or Charities of choice:

We don’t have favorites as we have worked with over 500 fabulous causes and organizations since we started in 2004.

Why have you supported these causes:

There are so many worthy causes in the world. I feel it’s my privilege and responsibility to share my experience to help them engage their supporters through a custom charm.

Who influenced your spirit of giving and how:

My parents, especially my father who was a veteran. He always helped those in need and really stretched the importance of giving back.

How do you believe fashion can aid philanthropy:

I am actually writing a book about “The Impact of Jewelry as a Force for Good.” In the last 15 years cause jewelry has become a major force and almost every jewelry company has a give back product that supports a cause. It’s a huge movement now, and one that shows an industry can make a difference.

What is your biggest philanthropic accomplishment:

I am so proud that thousands of Charity Charms are on wrists around the world…helping people spread the word for the causes they care about. Our goal is a “Charm on Every Arm”. There are 1,800,000 charities in the USA….we are just getting started.

Favorite philanthropic quote:

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” ― Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank: the play
